Hello all - my name is Bonnie. As all of you, I am a birdlover. I had two tiels for 13+ years, a male and a female. They got along great, but the female never laid any eggs. My female just passed away last week and I was devastated. I don't have any idea what happened. She was doing fine. I took her out of her cage for a few minutes to say hello and 2 minutes after I put her back in she was in trouble. She was gone within seconds. I miss her. She was so sweet and my male crys now all the time. I decided to get him another companion. So I brought another tiel home and am now trying to get them used to being around each other. He still cries all the time and screeches like he is looking for my other bird. They were together for 13 years. Do you think he still misses her?

Bonnie,
Welcome and yes, he most definitely misses her. It may take him awhile to warm up to the new tiel. Do you have them in separate cages, where they can see and whistle at each other? Or how are you trying to introduce them?

I have separate cages where they can see each other. My new fellow isn't talking much yet. But he is still young. I did hear him singing yesterday morning a little. He sounds so much different than my older male. I know he misses her. I miss her too! She was so sweet. I just hope he does warm up to the new tiel. I can't stand to hear him cry like this all the time. It makes me so sad!

Bonnie,
As I said it may take awhile, but eventually your older bird should accept the younger one. By the way, what are their names? Earlier this year, I had a male cockatiel, Jobar, who got out of my house and we never found him, he was with my female, Gigi. She missed him and then I got another male, Simcah to share her cage and they bonded, so it does happen, you just have to have patience and lots of love.
