OK, so Sparky has been home for almost a month now and is a sweetheart! He's learned to whistle a new song, loves to have his head rubbed, doesn't bite or scream, and loves his millet spray, Cheerios, seeds, and broccoli slaw. But how do I get him to try new foods, like the corn, peas, and squash that my previous tiels just loved? He turns up his nose at all of it, even when I strung veggies on a thread. He also doesn't seem to be into playing with new toys - does OK with the stringy beady thing in his cage and plays a little with a bell. How do I encourage him to try new things?

Just as humans can be a little cautious about new things, Sparky can too. Just keep encouraging him with new foods. My flock is the same when I put new toys in their cages. It takes them awhile to decide to check it out and play with it. Just continue to show Sparky that you love him and he will eventually accept new things.
