We got our little Sparkie about one month ago and we are already in love!! He was hand fed by his previous owner, so he is quite tame. He is all grey with white cheeks and pearly white patches on his wings. The previous owner said he is very rare. We don't know if this is true or not, but who cares.....we'd love him if he was pink with purple polkadots!! My question is, to bathe or not to bathe. I've spoken to other teil owners who said they have never bathed their bird, but all the books say they need bathed weekly. Help!! I need answers. He doesn't seem to like water.

Hello and welcome. Would love to see pictures of the bird, sounds beautiful. As far as to bathe, definately, and there are a few ways you can do this. Either offer him a shallow bowl of lukewarm or even room temp [if you home is warm, and avoid drafts] or you can spray them down with a water bottle a few times a week. Either way is fine and will encourage your bird to preen himself and stay in good condition. Not only does it help keep the dander down, and help them in preening but cockatiels seem to actually enjoy bathing. Best of luck and again welcome, Ruth

We spray some of ours with a spray bottle, some prefer a bowl of water, some of the ones in the house like to get up under the faucet when we are running it for the sink and then there are the others who follow us into the shower and have themselves a really good time. But tiels love bathes in one form or another it helps keep dander down and keeps their feathers pretty and they feel better.

Hi,
I bought my first tiel about 13 days ago but I'm afraid she will not bond to me. She barely chirps and never plays with toys. She hisses whenever I get near her cage. I leave the door open and she comes out finds a place 2 perch and just sits. Can you please tell me if this is normal for tiels? Is she sick? My previous lovebirds were very playful.
