My name is Sandie my husband Larry and I live in Southern California for the time being. I am a happy owner of 2 cockatiels , my husband has 1 cockatiel. I am very interested in learning more about raising them to be contented, happy and well trained tiel children.
My first cockatiel I got at of all places was at a local ASPCA shelter. I went and heard my future bird chirping and singing his/her little heart out. It was love at first sight and I adopted my bird Boomer for $20. Boomer was easy bird to handle even though she had been in the wild for a few days before she was brought to the animal shelter.
Boomer and I love to go to youtube and listen to cockatiel bird videos and listen to theom talk and sing. Also i go to a chat site that has music and Boomer loves to sing to the music. She is a picky eater only eats seed and not veggies or fruit. I got the birds vitamins to put into their seed.
My husband got his bird Ozzy Osbird after his favorite heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. It took time for Ozzy to get acclimated to his new home . Ozzy loves to eat cooked top ramen noodles, pizza crust and other foods with his daddy. Ozzy will walk and follow his daddy all through the house like a puppy lol.
I got my new tiel October 27th and I am learning I am facing a whole new situation with Khan. I got Khan at the same store that my husband got his. The difference is Ozzy was in a smaller cage with only one other baby tiel. My bird was in a small aviary with about with about 30 plus tiels that were a combination untamed and hand raised also many English budgies and parakeets. Once I got Khan home I realized that my training Khan will be totally different from the way trained Boomer . Khan drew blood three time and I was tempted to change his/her name to Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula. LOL just joking.
I am looking forward to getting ides from veteran tiel owners and start learning how to properly raise tiles so they can lead happy and long lives. Sincerely, Sandie Butler
