I have bought a cockatiel, but haven't brought it home yet. This will be my first bird. My question is this: Is there any overriding benefits of shelling out the money for a stainless steel cage versus spending less for a typical powder coated cage. I am willing to pay the extra cash if I can be convinced it's worth it (i.e. more sanitary, easier to clean, etc.)? any help is appreciated. Thanks. I look forward to being a part of the group! Bobb

Welcome to the group . Am just a bird keeper of many years . As for the cage . Yes stain steel are great cages . But have a big price tag also . Now I would say they are the best for large parrots . I have always used the power coated . And they have lasted along time with my 5 tiels and CAG . Have no trouble cleaning them . Well say if this is your first bird they do become additive . ;D I got back into birds 5 years ago now there is 6 in the house . Just a word of advice can't stop at one .

Bobb, I happen to agree as well, its nice to have the better cages, but not nescasary. I currently just switched from a large flight back to cages [so that they could be kept indoors during the cold winter months], and even with 40 plus birds the cheaper cages do the trick just as well as stainless. Spend the extra money spoiling him or her rotten instead, he/she will love you more for it, blessings Ruth
