My two year old cockatiel Bob is giving me mixed messages when I scratch his head. He's learned to put his head down to get a scratch. But after a couple of seconds of scratching he attacks my finger! I have tried all kinds of pressure and scratch styles but he always seems to do this. And then after the attack he puts his head down again, asking for a scratch! Anybody else have this happen to them? What's going on? Is he asking "to play" with my hand?

You might not be reaching the right place when scratching, or he may have new pin feathers coming in that are tender. Jan

I am beginning to think that he is just ultra sensitive when it comes to his new pin feathers. He lets me scratch the longest when I just lightly ruffle is neck feathers. I noticed, too, that when he is getting his new wing feathers in even fluffing himself sometimes hurts him. Bob is just a sensitive male
