Hey guys! I have a male tiel for about 8 years now. He has been very loving and playful ever since I got him... A couple of yeas back he had a mirror in his cage and got attached to the reflection and became very aggressive. He got away from the aggressiveness with a lot of training and patience....
I have NEVER CUT his wings and I live in a house and he flys around as he pleases when i let him out of the cage.. He rarely see's his reflection (only when he flys in front of the mirror) but it's brief so he cant sty there for a while and go into the trance he would go into when he had the mirror on his cage....
Recently i purchased a new cage which is great and he loves it. However, the stainless steel bowls create a reflection... He never noticed it for 4-5 months and neither did i actually.. i thought it might happen but figured it would be too blurry and nothing like a mirror reflection but i was wrong... I came home from work one day and saw him stairing the outside of the bowl and he was going crazy as if it was another tiel.... i immediatley went into the cage and taped blue tape around the bowls so he cant see his reflection again....
Ever since i have done this the second he gets out of the cage he is agrressive towards me and flys to the mirros and stays up as long as possible in front of them.. when i go to pick him up he flys away... he also bit me 2 times in 1 week when he landed on my finger... Usually if i pet him on his head and hit a soft spot he will snap at me and maybe do a small bite and let go... Not these 2 bites... He bit into me really hard and kept biting... The bite drew blood and was pretty deep.....
So basically is there anyway to get my bird back mentally? hen he is in th ecage and i talk to him he gets happy and comes right up to me and is a sweet lil guy... Once i open the cage he flys away and goes into attack mode once i try and pick him up... even if he flys on my shoulder he starts making weird noises which means he is about to attack....
I know if i cut his wings he wont be able to do this and he will realize he has to rely on me from getting him to a to b but i would hate to do that to him.. he loves to fly... any help is appreciated
