Hi there, I recently adopted a proven pair of tiels and had decided to see if they would have some babies. I did not change anything with the cage, I just added the nestbox. They seemed to get right into it and I even caught them mating a couple of times. The male continued to work on the nest and I would see the female go in, etc. There were no eggs after several weeks, so I assume the female did not want to lay them. Well, all of a sudden the male began attacking the female. I waited to see if they would work things out, but he would go from being "fine" to suddenly chasing her and trying to bite her. She was becoming stressed and so I moved her into a holding cage to calm down. I removed the nest box, thinking that maybe the male was upset that the female would not cooperate in the baby-making process. I have waited a couple of days and this morning I tried putting the female back with the male. He instantly attacked her and I had to remove her again. I have kept her cage right next to his so that they will not be totally separated, and he is fine with that. He does not bother her that way. It's just when I take her out of that cage he tries to immediately go after her. I am so confused!!! They have had one clutch already from what I was told from the person I adopted them from, and they were totally bonded before the male changed. They would groom, kiss and sit together constantly. Now I don't know if this behavior is normal or if I will need to keep them apart permanently! Does anyone have any advise or have been through this before?
