I will be showing my tiel for the first time in about 3 weeks. I am putting her in a show box for about an hour at a time and yesterday for 2 hours. When you go to the show do you transport your tiel in the show box or another smaller travel cage? Also it was suggested that I take my tiel for a ride in my car prior to the show to get her use to traveling in it. What do you all do? Where can I purchase small water dishes for the tiel show box and the smaller show boxes for my lovebirds? Thanks for any help. Have a good weekend. Sue

Sue,
I have transported my birds both by show cage and a travel cage. I think the birds are more relaxed in a travel cage because they usually have more perches and maybe a toy or two to play with while traveling. How far will you be traveling? If you have bird speciality shop near you, you should be able to get the water dishes, but you can always order online. Check out BirdCage or Drs Foster and Smith.

I have never participated in showing birds, but would like to start researching the activities and whole process involved and necessary information needed to prepare for and get started. Where do I begin? Where will I find what I need to know. How do I get what I need for getting started. I just recently purchased some showbirds and also have been breeding cockatiels and may be ready to get started with the birds very soon. Any pointers in the right direction would be helpful.

You can go out to National Cockatiels Society's website (www.cockatiels.org) and it will give you a lot of information about showing. Also, if you could tell where you are located, I might be able to pair you up with a mentor.

Late to this, but I would add that if the bird is tame and fairly stress-free, then a travel cage is great. If the bird is high stress and less tame, then I think keeping them in a stable, secure environment (show cage) for the weekend of the show is probably the best way to go.
Good luck!
