I have a parakeet (in a different cage) but I just picked up my first tiel today. She was rescued from outside and no one claimed her so I took her in. She seems to be in good health and is only a few months old (so not tame at all) but is VERY vocal and loud. She has a shrill screech and I'm afraid my neighbors are going to complain if she keeps it up. I've resorted to putting in ear plugs when I'm in the room with her. If anybody has any advice on how to calm her and quiet her down, I'd appreciate it. I'll also take any other advice anyone has to offer, as this is my first tiel.
My parakeet Flynn screeched a few times when I first got him but now he never makes a sound except to sing to me every few days. Do you think I just need to give the tiel some time to calm down or will she always screech that way? I'm afraid it's not going to work out in my apartment if she keeps screeching like this.

Welcome to the boards.
Give her some time to get use to her new surroundings.

Unfortunately it will probably take some time for improvement to happen. What I do is ignore them any time they are screaming and then make a special effort to go over and give them attention whenever they aren't. After a couple of weeks of being ignored when he/she is screaming hopefully he/she will get the idea. You can also try covering the cage whenever he/she starts screaming. I hope he/she can calm down for you because he/she is one lucky tiel to have found you.
