I set two pairs up a couple of weeks ago and one of them has taken to the nest box and layed their first egg. I don't know if it's fertile yet. I plan on candling it in a couple days. I just wanted to share the good news.

If there is a red line then it's fertile.
Do you know how to candle it?

I've read about it. I also saw some pictures with fertile and non-fertile eggs next to each other and the fertile ones seem less opaque. Today the second egg of the clutch was laid, but both look pretty opaque to me. I was going to wait until she is done laying in a few days and then give candling a try. I don't think they're fertile because I haven't ever seen any copulation either (not that I watch them all day), but I get the feeling that the male doesn't know his way around a hen very well (he's only two and a half).

Well all I can say is wait and see. You could also try asking on the NCS facebook group.

I have a Cockatiel breeding question, I'm new to it so please forgive me for any ignorance! I have 2 pairs of cockatiels (2 male and 2 female) in one cage that is 3 feet wide, 2 feet deep and 4 feet tall. Both pairs have mated and I have 2 nest boxes one on each side of the cage and each pair has identified their box by pecking at the hole. Pair A: had 2 eggs, 1 hatched and the chick is 4 1/2 weeks old and doing great. Pair B: had 5 eggs, so far 4 have hatched - hatching started 5 days ago. Tonight I was watching them all interact together and while both Pair B were out eating, Pair A-male when into Pair B nest box, and then Pair B-female went in there too! Pair B (neither male nor female) seemed to care and then both Pair A came out and all was fine. Pair A has been diligent about feeding their one little chick from the day he hatched and Pair B has been feeding their little chicks too like clockwork, but this is the first time I've seen them go into the others nest box. Should I be worried??? I do have another cage and I could separate the two pairs, but I'm a little worried about moving them and disrupting the situation - since they all "seem" to be getting along. The 4 of them have been together for 2 years and are all the same age...about 2 1/2 years old. Please help!

If they are not harming the babies, then it is ok.

I agree ... if they aren't doing any harm I wouldn't change anything. If it were me I'd probably split them up before starting the nesting next time though, just to avoid any issues that might come up.
