Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself so you're not wondering who the newbie that keeps posting is.
I've been a cockatiel owner / lover for seven years. My first cockatiel was a normal hen. She was just starting to come out and be really tame when I had to travel for work and my wife and I decided to let her brighten the lives of a friend's family who had lost their cockatiel. A while later, after finishing my work abroad, I found my next tiel companion, who is a normal cock with a beautiful whistle. He greets every morning by showing off all the bird calls he's learned from the clock that plays a different bird whistle every hour. Next came a pearl hen and then a bit later a white face cock and a lutino hen. Finally, the flock was rounded out with another pearl hen and a pied cock named Tinkerbell. Tink is the most tame, companionable bird I have ever seen. He whistles tunes and can even say a few words. If I come into the room and don't let him out of the cage he reminds me by saying his name.
I believe i would like to try showing in the future. I've got some leg bands on order for the time I get some nest box action. About six years ago I did a little budgie breeding, but never showed. I'm hoping to attend a show in May just to watch and learn and see if it's really something I want to do. But if not I'll just enjoy my flock ... especially my boy Tink.
