Hi there.I am new to the board. My 10 year old daughter has a 4 month old albino tiel. We have just found out that she has fatty liver disease. Can any one tell me anything about pellet diets and which ones are the best? Thanks. Ally. ;D

First you have to convert the bird to a pelleted diet which is hard to do. Pelleted diets have vitamins and are less fattening then regular seed diets. As for fatty liver disease: www.avianweb.com/liverdisease.htmlI give my Cockatiel a diet of mixed seed with pellets. The pellets are made by pretty bird, but your bird may need something better. If you're on Facebook, try posting on the National Cockatiel Society's facebook group. I'm also gonna ask the members on my own facebook group as some of them have Cockatiels with health problems and may be able to recommend a good pellet diet. I will then get back to you.

Good pellet diets: Harrison's Roudybush Totally Organics TOP Organic Bird Pellets TOPS (Totally Orgainic) contains a lot of what they recommend for fatty liver. It is not corn based and it has dandelion and milk thistle in it. You can get it here: www.totallyorganics.com/categories.phpSomeone recommended to get the crumplets. One the members of my fb group runs a small parrot rescue and hospice. She said the Tiels would not eat pellets, got a sample of these and now they eat pellets. Another member also got a 95% conversion rate to these pellets.
