We currently have 5 cockatiels ranging from 10 months to 3 years. They all have good personalities and have never given us trouble either accepting new birds or being accepted. We've come accross a deal that is too good to paas up, but have a couple questions. The new bird is either 6 or 7 never been handled nor been around other birds. We've never introduced an older bird into the flock and was wondering if or how much that would affect the social status of the current birds. Thank you in advance for any advice.

The new bird will be a rehome and there will be some issues such as handling him/her. Basically it will not let you handle it and at this point may not ever let you handle it. I know this from experience because Chirpy is a Rehomed bird and she came to live with me when she was 7. She was never handled in her previous home. I did manage to find the breeder and found out she was hand fed as a baby, but since then had no physical contact with people. Chirpy's been with me for 2 1/2 years so far she will only cuddle up to my arm and leg, follow me around, and occasionally sit on my lap. Recently I have started giving her scritches while holding her. While she doesn't like to be handled, but will stop struggling when I give her scritches.
As for housing it with other birds. It may not like being in the same cage with other birds. If you decide to get it, it is a good idea to keep it housed in a separate cage near the other birds, and see how it reacts.
