Hi there could someone please tell me why my chicks died as they were trying to hatch? The first two hatched fine but the next two died, they made a small hole and you could hear the chick inside but they both died during the hatching process, the first two are doing really well just would be interesting to know why the other two didnt make it

Did it seem like they were having a hard time trying to come out?

Dont no went to work just noticed small hole in top and could hear baby cherping just asumed they would hatch like the others so when checked again the next day they still werent hatched so picked up egg and there was no sound so broke it open and chick was dead same 2 days later when 4th one hatched could see the hole and hear the chick but it never hatched, they always say not to help and as they are in the nest box I really have no idea when they make the hole and how long is to long to hatch.

There is a way to help a baby bird come out of the egg if it appears to be having trouble, but a person would have to know what they are doing.
Maybe someone here can shed some light as to why the babies died in the egg.
Sorry for your loss.

Being wintertime the humidity in the environment is very low. When there is low humidity around the last week prior to hatch the egg will not draw in much fluids from the environment, causing the interior of the egg to be drier. When this happens the membrane sticks to the chick which prevents ity from turning to successfully hatch out. This article will have some helpful info: [http://justcockatiels.weebly.com/assist-hatches.html/url]

The humidity is low i have had that happen and when it does you have to do assist hatch where you gently open up the shell at the spot its hatching from the above article that susanne shows will help! I have done about 3 assist hatches and it can be scary at first but once u have done it you feel like a life saver and most times they make it unless something is wrong like chick is to weak! If you breed like to like mutations like pearls to pearls or lutino to lutinos you increase the mortality rate!! So keep that in mind too

Breed pearls to pearls or Lutinos to Lutinos will increase the mortality rate? Does it has something with genetics?

Sometimes i havent bred them but i know breeders that have and he had lutinos die young or when he is handfeeding they die from sourcrop which is common in lutinos and another reason not to breed like to like is cause of for instance pearls or lutinos can have baldness behind crest or small weak babies that dont make it but thats not always true for some mutations like wf can be bred together but i had a pair 1 was a cinnamon pearl pied and heavy pied male and they would loose half of the clutch and i wondered why cause they were excelent parents and i started handfeeding and they kept dieing too and so i think it had to do with breeding the like to like but not sure

Hello, I love this conversation you tiel lovers are having. I have been breeding for 1year and 3 month and only was able to product two successful hatches other wise I have to buy out of other people's nest boxes. Thanks for the simple reminder to check humidity. Out of 18 laid eggs and candled, all but 4 were fertile of mine. But only two successful hatches. I am going to spray the boxes toward the last week and moist up things. Also I am going to purchase a humidifier.
