Hi,
We just inherited a 13 year old cockatiel. I believe his prior owner used to cover his cage at night. I'm not sure if we should do the same or not. I'm worried about him having night terrors in a new place if his cage is covered. On the other hand, if that's what he's used to maybe we should continue. Any thoughts on this?

If he's use to it, then cover the cage.

Think covering the cage at night gives the bird a sense of security. Good sleep is important to them as it is us. Over the years we've even used a cover to help quiet the bird during daytime if they get excited or we needed bit of peace and quiet. IMHO it's a good idea.
