Good morning all! I was hoping for some advice. I have a sweet yellow pied female for over a year now, and she's just recently developed a new not so good habit. In the mornings when I uncover her, she starts chirping nervously and flares her wings slightly. (heart shaped) She was always so excited to see me, but now it seems the sight of me evokes this odd behavior. I've tried everything, but she won't quit. I've let her sit on my shoulder while I make my tea, let her sit on her cage, given her treats, etc. It's gotten so bad that I have to put her in another room for a few hours. Then the rest of the day, she's perfectly fine. She loves to snuggle while I type my work on the computer. She even preens me! I feel badly about separating her, but I just can't take the noise. She's due for a nail and flight wing clip. Maybe they'll settle her down again? She used to love to sit on her cage in the sun and sing away, but I don't know what's changed. Thanks in advance for you words (chirps) of wisdom! =)

Awwww she's making heartwings for you. As for the chirping, if this occurs only in the morning then it is just making the morning call. Wild birds often vocalize at sunrise and the captive ones will do the same thing.
Also if she is over a year old, she is probably entering the adolescent stage and there will be some hormonal changes.

Not to worry, my birds do the same.. Shortly after taking their cover off the cage then pulling up the blind,my female Sarah Sue will do the same. She will first stretch then flap her wings, making a "EEK" sound. Shilo bird will do several loud "Tweets", then break in telling my Basset Hound to go "pee pee", then whistle "Jingle Bells". You got to love the mornings around here!! Always a joy to wake up and start the day...
