Hey everybody, This is my first time, though I've had birds for a long time. My current babies are Gypsy, 8 1/2, and Bas (sounds like boss), about 5 1/2. Neither have been genetically tested, but gypsy is very likely a female (she's a quiet, docile, cinnamon lacewing) and Bas was always assumed to be a male (very vocal, alpha, constantly supplants Gypsy, and masturbates nearly incessantly); She has always rejected his clumsy advances. But lately she is presenting VERY frequently. The slightest touch sparks her mewling and bowing, and she's never gone through this before. Occasionally, and presumably spurred by lots of cuddling, she presents to me. But it's generally a rare occurrence. And just now, while away for a mere 20 minutes, an egg has appeared! In a precarious spot too- what is going on?

I have had birds appear sexual after only a year and some that never seem very interested until they come in tip top condition. This is just nature's way. Sounds like Bas finally has caught her attention and she is feeling comfortable about his advances. You have a few choices. You can let her continue her laying cycle (probably 4-6 eggs) wherever she is laying. If she lays more, you may want post here again. Or, you can give her a nest and convince her that this is a better place to lay her eggs (may or may not work).
This is total normal behavior and this is just "her time" to start laying.

If you don't have a calcium supplement like a mineral block, then one must be added because the eggshell is made out of calcium and without a supplement calcium will be taken from her body. Make sure she has plenty of protein in her diet because the egg yolk is made out of protein.
