My tiels refuse to use the bath I place in their cage, but will use the water bowl. Yet, when I place this bath in their play area, they go nuts in it. They want nothing to do with a mister, but will fly though the shower when I am in it. What I want to know is, is this normal not to use a bath in their living area? And will these shower flights hurt them? What they really like is a good dust bath. When I take them out to get some sun, they dig up an area to dust in just like my chickens.

Birds have their own preferences how they want to take their baths, so it is normal not to use a bath in their living area. The shower flights should not hurt them as long as the water is warm.
I don't know if letting them have dust baths is such a good idea because Cockatiels produce feather dust ( dander ) and dust baths may make it worse.

Birds definitely are creatures of habit. One has probably decided what he likes and rest just followed suit! Funny how picky they are. My birds love being misted and go crazy for it. Go figure
