PLEASE HELP!! I need information on how long does puberity last in male Cockatiels? What once was the sweetest birdy in the world, loving, whistling and talking my head off, has now turned 100% demon bird!! He hasn't talked for 5 days now. He is going down to the bottom of his cage, moving back and forth on his food dish making soft chirps sounds. He then climbs up his ladder, hops onto his perch to preen and play with his toys, then (well you can figure out the rest) back down again. He aslo does really strange things for example, when I give him fresh water each day, he puts his bedding in one side of his water dish a few minutes after the change out? It kinda reminds me of a nest site. I am pretty sure that Shilo is a male bird. He displays all the trademarks of being a man birdy. He does the wolf whistle and has an extensive vocal abilities, and ever so cute (head bobs)and the pecking on the cage to get attention.. Gosh I sure miss the morning rituals of all his funny sentences that he would say to me each and everyday. I wonder if he will ever talk again? I would like to upgrade his living quarters to a larger cage. Would this be wise choice to do if he is going through this stage? His cage now is what they sold me at the pet store when I purchased him back in October. It's approx size is 29" x 20". I would like to see him have a larger living space. I just don't want to freak him out by giving him a new cage with this stage that is going on with him. I am not interested in breeding, or purchasing him a mate. I love giving him the quality time and care it takes to be being a good birdy parent. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for him, he is one beautiful bird in my heart!! So if anyone has any replys to my questions I would so appreciate the help.. Sincerely, Cindy

Don't worry his behavior will improve and the hormonal stage will pass. As for getting a new cage, let him move past the hormonal stage first and then get a new cage.
