Hello All, I first joined the NCS back in March when I first became interested in showing my cockatiels. The cockatiel bug bit me about 3 years ago and ever since then I have been hooked! I got my first two cockatiels (a cinnamon pied male split pearl and yellowcheek and a cinnamon pearl pied female split whiteface) 3 years ago as pets and the hobby has grown since then. I now have 17 cockatiels and have been breeding them just over a year now. It is great to see each cockatiel have their own personality and I think the individualism in each bird is what really got me interested.... not to mention the beautiful color mutations (which WF Pieds are my favoirte! ) and beauty of their body shape! I am going to my first show in October, in Nashville, and I can't wait to see what the ring is really like. I have had a couple mentors really help me out in the past, Chris Orwitz (KY State Coordinator) and Ellen O'Niel (from MA) and they have helped me tremendously!!!! They are part of the reason I have really got into the showing aspect and have given me some good advice! Anyways.... I hope to get to know you all soon! We all have something in common, and it's cool that this is bringing us all together to get to know others with the same passion! Josh www.perkinstiels.webs.com

Welcome, and it is addictive! I just wanted a couple of pets...then a couple of show quality pets...well, now I have twenty "pets" and show birds, not including babies! I may need an intervention...

you don't need an intervention until they take over all your living space except the bedroom then you might be getting a little obsesive about them.........i have to go build some more perches.......where did I move my tools to

Thank you Cheryl for the welcome! You and i are now facebook friends too! I misunderstood what Leslie said and thought she meant she was from TN. But, now that I think about it, I knew she was from NC too... silly me!

Welcome Josh! I think we will have to start saying "JP" and "JM". Nice to have you join the ranks of the addicted, obsessed and dedicated. Hope you enjoy the shows and all the great birds (and their people) in attendance. Sherri www.tametiels.com

Thanks Sherri! Just a little report from my first show: I attended my first NCS show in Nashville, TN on October 10th, 2009. It was absolutely GREAT! I learned so much and met a lot of great people... not to mention I placed 7th on the Novice Bench, which was very exciting!!! Placing was good, but learning so much about what a cockatiel is REALLY supposed to look like and how to really judge a bird for certain qualities is what really made the show valuable, in my opinion. There were so many AWESOME tiels there, and great exhibitors with alot of experience! This was definately a great experience and I look forward to meeting all of you at shows, at some point or another! Josh www.perkinstiels.webs.com
