A friend recently passed away, leaving behind a beautiful cockatiel named Conrad. I'm currently taking care of him, but would like to find a proper home. I already have three birds and two cats and I think one more is too much. He's about 8 years old, whistles all the time, is finger trained and very active. I would like to find a good home where he will be happy and loved. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful. Thank you.

If no one wants to take him, you can contact several vets offices, the local humane society, and pet supply stores. Another option is to put out an ad in a bird enthusiast website. Some websites such as birdchannel allow people who are no longer able to keep their birds to advertise they are looking for good homes. Here is birdchannel's adoption forum: board.birdchannel.com/Forum51-1.aspxYou can post you are looking for a home for him there. Be sure to screen potential owners before giving him away.

Hi Jennifer, I would love to find an affectionate cockatiel to adopt. You didn't mention in your post where you are located; I'm in Durham, NC. Does Conrad still need a new home ? I have had birds since 1986 and am missing having a feathered companion. Hope to hear from you, Laurel Note: In case Jennifer is not near Durham NC, please anyone who is in my area and can help me find a cockatiel to adopt, please write to me: llaurel.tt@earthlink.net

Thanks for asking ... I made many phone calls to animal rescue organizations, animal hospitals, pet sitters, the local caged bird society, etc in the past two days. Today I went here: www.flyingcolorsbirds.org/index.html and came home with Jerry, a 7 year old male cockatiel who I hope will become my very good friend and companion. He loves perching on my shoulder and I'm hoping in time he will let me rub his head. My last cockatiel adored that kind of attention.
