No matter which food dish the male goes to, the female runs him off. I think I am going to feed him in a separate cage. She really drives him away when I put carrot tops in the cage. Anyone else have this problem?

Anyone else have this problem? Putting the male in a separate cage might be a good idea. Is this the only time they don't get along or do they get along most of the time?

They get along and play all the time. That is until the male wants to eat, then the female pushes him out of the dish. He will go to another dish and she is right there. It is like a game with them. They don't fight or bite at each other. Like to little kids, that is mine and you can't have any.

Just offer two bunches of carrot tops, one on one side of the cage and another on the other side. She can't eat at two places at once. Jan

They know when I am bring carrots in from the garden and carry on until I put the tops in for them. They will eat side by side then. She has decided to let him have one of the bowls for himself. It is more of a game with her than anything else. They drink water side by side, it was just the food that she seemed protective of. Being these were found in a garbage enclosure at my work, it may just be that they didn't have any food for a few days. They play together all the time. Anyone that comes into the house met with a greeting of whistles and crips.
