Hi, I am wondering why my birds r not succesful at breeding. they lay eggs, sit on them as they should. last time, they sat on the eggs for over a month, when we decided to finally pull the eggs, one egg had what looked like a baby, but the others were not a clear yolk, but not a colored one. we have had this pair several months, the male talks, they breed, and r again starting to lay eggs. the egg that looked like it had a chick, the middle part of it, looked like it was rotten, or maybe rotting. I have had birds in past, but never a mated pair, they have taken my life over. any help, would be awesome. thanks Pam

Sometimes a new pair starting to breed does not sit right on the eggs and they will not hatch. This time if the eggs do not hatch when you pull the eggs crack them and see if any were fertile. What is the age of your birds?

they r not a new pair, they r about 3-4 years old, they were sold as a proven pair. I think they r a proven pair, because the mans wife did not know at first they were being sold, she wanted them for herself. she was pretty mad when she found that I bought the pair and the cage (4 ft by 2 ft, 3 ft tall) when we pulled one, it did have a chick, the other 2 looked like it may have had something, was not clear, just kind orange, but see thru. can thunder kill them? if so, we r in trouble again, because its starting to thunder tonite. thanks for the answer Pam

Pam, sounds like two were not fertile and the third died part way through developement. The two with orange would have at least had red veins running through them if they were growing. No thunder cannot harm eggs or growing young. If the babys are meant to hatch they will. I can imagine that they will do a better job this time round, condiering. If you are still unsuccessful after trying, please seperate them and give them a break for at very least 6 months. Its unhealthy and even dangerous for them to continue laying eggs and not giving their bodies sufficiant time to catch up. It would be like a woman who is pregnant constantly for 10 years, not safe or healthy. I wish you the best of luck, blessings Ruth
