I would like to study Cockatiel genetics -- I'm not a breeder - I just don't know where the resources are -- I'm more of a visual person -- I like books and I love to read -
I'm hoping people on here - would know of a few books or classes that will help me as a beginner to understand the world of tiel genetics.
Thanks for any help,
SHARI and her tiel friend TRIXIE

Hi and welcome, at the NCS website www.cockatiels.org on the home page you will see a link for the NCS store click on it and there is a book for sale there called Genetics For Beginners. It is a good place to start as there are references listed in it that you can also go to and use. Hope this helps.

Genetics for beginners may not be available but if you watch Amazon or Ebay, you CAN find a copy being sold. I just got one off Amazon. Also, there are several other sites that have great info on genetics. I have also found this simple virtual breeder program found here www.kirstenmunson.com/cockatiels/ is a great place to "play" with potential combinations and see what you get.

that kirstenwebsite is wrong! get a book, or find another site. It lacks the true percentage...and leaves out some mutation you will get when you put a pair together.
