I have never had a cockatiel before today, I saved a pair from sure death. They were left outside next to the trash cans. Anyway I have them home now with fresh water and food. My daughter asked me what kind of treats I am going to give them. My answer was, I have no idea. So here I am looking for help. What is a good treat for them?

Vegetables, fruit, and grains are good treats to give Cockatiels. Just google what kind of vegetables and fruit can be given to them because some fruits and veggies can be fatal to birds like giving them apples with seeds in them ( the seeds are fatal ). make to put them on a proper diet with all the vitamins they need.

no avocado, no apple seeds, no chocolate. I do not give my birds fruit very often...very seldom, in fact. I do not think it is a "natural" part of their diet. I think greens, such as mustard, turnip, kale, collards are very important (they love cilantro, too!) and second to that, veggies. Mine also love baked sweet potatoes and I make my own birdie bread (you can search recipes, I do not use anything with sugar...including most cornbread mixes). Whole grain bread and dry, low sugar cereals...I make a mix of rice krispies, cheerios and wheaties that my birds love.
Good luck!

I give Chirpy broccoli and cup up string beans. I also give her rice crispies and cornflakes. She loves them.

My cockatiel does not like fruit or veggies. She loves millet above any other food. Probably not as nutritious but a fine little treat.

My cockatiel does not like fruit or veggies. She loves millet above any other food. Probably not as nutritious but a fine little treat. Millet is a nice treat to give once in while, but giving her vegetables is much better for her because they are loaded with vitamins such as vitamin A which are really good for birds. Besides a varied diet is beneficial for birds. How to convert Cockatiels to a healthier diet: www.ehow.com/how_5637721_change-cockatiel_s-diet.htmlwww.avianweb.com/diet.htm
