I have a male cockatiel he is 1 years old the lady I got him from said that he will not come out of his cage at all. Well I've only had him a for a few days now, and she is right he does not want to come out at all. I put my hand in and he goes to the back of the cage. I'm not sure if he will ever come to me.He has never tried to bite me or anything like that. I just want him to be able to trust me that I'm not going to hurt him in any way. I have another question how do you get him to like veggies and fruits if he has never had any. Thank you for your time and help.

Persistence is the name of the game with cockatiels. As long as he is not attacking your had, try to put your hand in the cage at least a couple times a day, this will help him to realize that you are not going to hurt him. As for changes to his diet, again persistence. My birds love spinach and kale. You might want to try holding a leaf in your hand while trying to earn his trust. Let us know how everything develops.

I have a male gray cockatiel, named BJ. I just got a female from a friend of my daughter. It is gray white and yellow. I think it is a pearle. BJ is about 2 years old, not sure how old the female is. Her name is Granny, husband named her. Would like to put them in the same cage, but not sure how to do it. I have the cages sitting next to each other so they can get use to each other.
