Judy,
I'm sorry that no one responded to you. Did you just wait and see what would happen and if so, did the egg hatch? I was just talking to one of the more experienced breeders and she asked how were so sure that the egg wouldn't hatch for at least another week? She also told me what she has done in the past with success; she takes plain, unscented toilet paper or tissue paper and a little clear nail polish and patches the egg. In both cases that she has done it, the chicks hatched fine, in fact, the first one is named Egg because of this solution. Please let me know what happened with your chick.

How mant days since this last egg was laid? Remember the average incubation of eggs is 21 days, plus or minus a day or two. I would leave the egg alone until you are sure that it has passed the 21 daysby at least 1 week maybe even two if you are not sure when it was laid. Let me know what happens or what you decide to do.

I agree w/ Cheryl...wait it out until you are sure the egg is not going to hatch. If you wrote down when each egg was laid, you will have an idea of when it should hatch.
I just had a chick hatch that had a "pip mark" (small crack) in the egg WAY early. I thought it would not survive, but I left it alone and it hatched and is fine. I am guilty of interfering too much sometimes, and this time I decided to watch and see...and it worked out that the chick not only survived but at this time, is thriving.
Good luck.

Judy,
I'm sorry that you lost the egg, but it sounds like your birds are having a lot of fun (LOL). Make sure have the babies are weaned that you separate the pairs, if you don't want any more babies for the time being.

I have a question. I have a male that is the Dad to two females in the same cage. I was suprised to witness mating between them. Now the hens have laid eggs but won't set on them. Should I destroy the eggs due to imbreeding?

Yes, you want to destroy the eggs because of the inbreeding situation. I'm glad that you moved the hens into another cage. It is really better for their health. Also, hens sometimes wwon't sit on their eggs until they have laid the complete clutch.

Candle the eggs. You can do this using a LED flashlight in a dark room. Just hold the egg above the light and you can see if the egg is/was fertile or if the chick died somewhere along in line. I do this all the time with my chicken eggs. It is one way to remove any unfertile eggs. Early on you can see the chick develop and grow.

one of my birds had eggs on dec 6 so far none have hatched. what can i do. It takes 18-21 days from the start of the incubation period for the eggs to hatch. Follow John advise and see if there are live babies in them.
