Hi! I just got a pair of tiels before Christmas. They were laying eggs in the store and laid one when I got them home. But, The ones in the store had been removed and I accidentally poked a hole in the one they laid here. So, I disposed of it. The birds have been mating several times a day for almost three weeks and I am wondering when the first egg might arrive. The birds are in a nice clean, roomy cage & have a nest box with soft wood shavings that they love to go in and out of, sit on & in alone or together. Is this normal that no eggs have come yet? This is my first experience with breeding any birds. I have had & still do have parakeets, but not breeding. I kept a friend's cockatiel for a year, but it was a single female. The birds seem very content, busy and active in general. They have a variety of healthy food choices and fresh water at all times. Am I missing something? I love to watch them. They are so clever and comical and loving toward each other. They are not especially tame to the hand, but don't seem to mind me having my hands in the cage or nest box. I would be so tickled to find an egg. Any ideas or suggestions?

Your hen will probably lay an egg every other day until they are ready to stop. Usually this is three to six eggs. If the egg is fertile, it should hatch in 18 to 21 days (give or take). Keep us posted on any developments.
