Hello ... I am new to the group. I have had tiels for about 5 years now. It all started with just one, and then another, and then another....you can never have just one ! I have 4 tiels currently, all of which I got a chicks and hand fed them and weaned them myself. I just lost one of my tiels a week ago, and I am devastated. I am very depressed. I was thinking of getting a new chick, and I would like it to resemble the one I just lost (whiteface male, mostly white with a bit of gray on the wings), but the bird stores that have chicks from breeder 38R do not have any chicks like this at the moment. I was wondering who 38R is, so that I may go straight to the souce. I think my local pet store said the breeder was in NJ but I don't know. I do know that I am heartbroken and the house is now very quiet without my Patches siging and making all his vocalizations.

Hi Jen, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I understand how one tiel is never enough. I got my first one three years ago and my second a year later. Now I have eight! I looked through the registered aviaries with NCS and I don't find a breeder using 38R. But this has been a big show weekend, so maybe when someone who has been involved with tiels longer than me, signs on either later today or sometime tomorrow, they can tell you who 38R is or was. I did find a breeder in New Jersey though for you to talk to directly. L'uccelliera Aviary (01/10) Francisco E. Aquino Bergenfield, NJ 07621 (917) 912-5098 Band Code: 62A Fbirds4care@aol.com I hope you find a bird to replace Patches, not in your heart because that hole will never be filled, but to give balance to your family.

Thank you very much for your sentiments and for the info ! I actually drove 2.5 hours yesterday to an aviary in NJ, and immediately when I walked in her caught my eye and my heart! He's a pearl whiteface, and he was chirping all of the other calls of the other birds in the place (so I think maybe he's a male). We just had to buy him. We brought him home and named him Flash. He's a cutie. Now we are a family of 5 birdies again, although you are right, the hole in my heart for Patches will never be filled. This new baby is cute though, and I hope to teach him some songs. I can't believe you have eight !! Giving attention and love for 5 is hard enough !!

Jen,
I'm glad that you found Flash or actually he found you. Look forward to seeing your posts about Flash and the rest of the flock.

Happy you got Flash home now . Your right you can't replace the hole from the other one . But new ones do find a spot in your heart . I have 4 tiels and a CAG.Really no more taking care of 5 as one . Have to say the house is never boring . The CAG never stop talking the 2 new boys never stop singing and the first 2 tiels are males to but not loud like the new boys on the block . They are 9 months old now .

Welcome to the group, I agree its always hard when we loose a beloved bird, no matter how long or short a time we have them, and they stay in our hearts forever. I named my aviary "Sweet Pea" after a bird that I had for less than an hour before she expired. Long story short I was called to a location with atrocious conditions and many descesaed birds on the premasis. One lil sweet girl [whom I named Sweet Pea] was still alive when I arived. She was "glued" to the bottom of her cage with feces, and barely alive. I couldnt even move her without causing her distress, so I decided the best thing for her was to end her misery. She just looked at me as if to say "thank you for loveing me if only for a moment, its ok I feel safe and now I can go", and then she passed. I will never forget her as long as I live and her memory will live on forever in my heart, as well as in the avairy name, blessings and I am so happy you found your new baby. Ruth
