Hello all, my name is Ruth. I started out two decades ago, as a rescue, and so grew to love cockatiels. I have rescued and rehabilitated and then rehomed more than 400 cockatiels [and around 70 other birds from finches to macaws] in that time. I decided to start buying some quality stock and breeding them myself about ten years ago, and I too found that the NCS banded birds, hands down, had the look I wanted, and most had the temperment as well. I joined the NCS two years ago, and within a few months of being a member I wanted to represent my state for the NCS, so I applied and was accepted for the position of state coordinator and the rest is history. I have never had so much fun in my life! Due to dissability from a bad car accident 6 years ago, I thought my days of being functional and useful to society were over, but since I joined the NCS, my life has taken on new meaning. I volenteer and do workshops at local pet shops [I was actually recognized by the Kennel Shop in my home town, for the work I have been doing, as well as the local Newspaper. I also visit nursing homes, and childrens hospitals as well, spreading the love that these birds have brought me and educating folks in the care and handleing of these amazing birds. Pat T. has been a wonderful teacher and encourager for me, as well as many others. I have made many new friends along the way, and am happier than I have been in many years. I started showing my birds last fall, and was amazed that with no forknowledge of what to expect or what the competition was like, I took 8 birds with me [what I saw as the best I had] and brought home 5 ribbons! I was hooked for life! I am totally thrilled to be here and am willing to help anyone who needs it. You have but to ask, blessings Ruth
