We've had Tiki (male) for about a year and he was friendlyand loving and sand all the time (sometimes a little too much ). We recently introduced a new tiel Gabby (female) into the family, from the minute we got her his singing has almost completely stopped but he remained friendly. We've had her for approximately 2 months and they seem well bonded, to the point where if they aren't in the same room they constantly call to each other. But recently Tiki has gotten incredibly agressive snapping and charging at my girlfriend and to a lesser extent towards me. Could any of this be because they have been mating, or is there more to worry about than that. Thank you anyone for your advice. Louis

Louis,
It is highly possible that Tiki and Gabby have mated and he is just trying to protect her. Or he could just being cage territorial, the way to correct either is to change up as much as you can in their cage (placement of food/water dishes; toys; cuttlebone, etc). Please try this and see if the situation improves. Are you wanting them to breed, if so, then it might help the situation if you give them a shoe box or kleenex box to use as a nesting area. If you do this, then you need to get aspen shavings for nesting material, if Gabby does lay eggs though, the agression might get a lot worse before it gets better. Let me know what you decide.

We have a nesting box but neither will get in with cover down, and had some string inside it but noticed that they just kept little by little taking it out and throwing it all over the place. I just went out and got some aspen chips, hopefully she will like that better. Thank you for the advice. Louis
